Frequently Asked Questions

  • We have qualified instructors that teach violin, piano, voice, guitar, cello, viola, and ukulele! We also offer seasonal group class offerings.

  • Every child is unique. We offer screenings for your child to determine readiness for regular music lessons. Screenings are available for ages 4 and up.

  • We accept children AND adults as students! We’ve taught as young as 4 years old (with proper screening) and as old as 82 years young!

  • Our studio is located at 208 West 2nd Street, in downtown Sedalia. While this space is under construction, lessons are being held at 110 West 2nd Street, one block to the East.

  • Your teacher will give you a supply list when you register. All items are available at Backwoods Guitar, which also has a great selection of stringed instruments, keyboards, and guitars.

  • Please consult with your instructor for the proper size instrument. It will be frustrating for both you and your child if they begin on an instrument that is too small or too large.

  • Most students come for a thirty-minute lesson each week. Other arrangements can be made with your instructor. Occasionally, we offer longer lessons for students who live further away or are more advanced.

  • We charge a flat rate of $25 per thirty-minute lesson, regardless of instrument or instructor. We charge by the lesson, and payments can be made weekly or grouped by the month. We accept cash, check, or electronic payments. Electronic payments are only available monthly.

  • If the student is ill, please stay home and contact your instructor as soon as possible regarding your absence. If you know in advance that you will be gone, please tell your instructor. If you do not give enough notice, you may be charged for your missed lesson.

  • In general, contact your teacher to confirm if your lessons will happen. Several teachers live in rural areas and may not be able to drive into town if the roads are bad. Because we serve students from multiple school districts, we do NOT automatically cancel lessons if a particular district is out of session. If your family feels that the roads are unsafe, contact your instructor as soon as possible.

  • Yes! Please email or call us and we’ll set it up.

  • If the agreed upon lesson time no longer works for your family, we ask that you contact your instructor or the main studio office as soon as possible to request a new time. We will do our best to accommodate these requests; however, we are limited to the available openings in your instructor’s schedule.

  • If you have an issue with your instructor, please talk to your instructor first. If your concern isn’t addressed, please contact the main studio office. We want all students to be comfortable and learn in the best environment possible.

  • We offer recitals twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. We offer an annual Spring Clinic during which students are assessed by a qualified instructor from outside the area. We will prepare students who wish to compete for outside competitions and festivals, but do not currently offer any of these opportunities in-house. While the recitals and the clinic are not mandatory, they are highly encouraged and provide the student valuable experiences and feedback.
